Historical Sketch of Electa Chapter No. 3
On June 27, 1892 A.D., pursuant to a call of the Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star for the Eastern Star for the State of California, Brother R.J. Fletcher, the following Master Masons, their wives and daughters being present to wit: Bros. B. E. Talbot, L. Layton, C. Cole, R. Summers, and S. Bowles, E. Talbot and M. Walker.
At being willing, a Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star was formed under the name and title of Electa Chapter, U.D.; with the following first officers: Worthy Matron, Sister S. Layton, Worthy Patron, Bro. B. Talbot, Associate Matron, Sister Bernice Talbot, Conductress, Sister S. Cole, Associate Conductress, Sister Minnie I. Bowles, Warder, Bro. I. Layton, Sentinel, Bro. C. Cole. The minutes of September 1, 1892 records that the regular meeting place was 124 San Pedro and on that date the minutes indicate that a committee of five was appointed to draft by-laws. Electa Chapter No. 3 was constituted in March, 1898 under the administration of Grand Patron Fletcher. Officers who assisted in constituting the Chapter were Royal Grand Patron, Fletcher, Royal Grand Matron, Emma Fletcher, Associate Royal Grand Matron Armenia M. Strickland and Grand Secretary Martha A. Clark.
Sister Sadie Alexander, Past Patron of Electa Chapter No. 3 served as Grand Worthy Patron of the Golden State Grand Chapter from June 5, 1914 to June 8, 1916. She also served with such distinction that another chapter was named in her honor, Sadie Alexander Chapter No. 63. She was also Grand Treasurer from June 1925 through July 1930. The Rev. Samuel M. Beame, Past Patron of Electa served as Grand Patron of the Golden State Grand Chapter from July 1927to 1940. He was a credit to his Chapter as well as the jurisdiction to the extent that a Chapter also bears his name.
Electa Chapter is the Mother Chapter in Southern California and has the distinction of dispensing charity and service to our community. It is our goal to make a difference in our community and lead the way by example.
